Neurodivergence Hub
A space for understanding and celebrating diverse ways of thinking, feeling and experiencing the world. Neurodivergence describes the natural variation in human brains, development and ways of processing the world.
At Sequoia Therapy, I take a neurodivergent‑affirming approach that recognises these differences as part of human diversity, not deficits to be fixed. This hub offers clear, compassionate information about common forms of neurodivergence, helping individuals, families and professionals deepen understanding and access support that truly fits.

For Adults
Understanding and celebrating diverse ways of thinking, feeling and experiencing the world
Autism
Autism is a different way of processing information, social cues, and sensory input. Common experiences include deep focus, valuing clear and direct communication, and a need for predictable environments. Affirming support celebrates these strengths while reducing sensory overwhelm.
Affirming Support: Building life-fitting strategies.
Dyspraxia
Dyspraxia (DCD) involves unique coordination and organisational styles. Common experiences include high empathy, persistence, and innovative problem-solving. Affirming support helps in navigating physical and executive functioning tasks with compassion and tailored tools.
Support: Navigating with persistence and tools.
ADHD
ADHD involves a dynamic, high-energy brain that thrives on novelty and interest. Common experiences include hyperfocus on passions, innovative problem-solving, and a non-linear approach to tasks. Affirming support helps you harness your natural drive without the burnout of masking.
Affirming Support: Connecting with your dynamic energy.
OCD
OCD is a protective brain mechanism attempting to create safety through patterns. Common experiences include deep reflection and attention to detail. Affirming support looks beyond the symptoms to understand the underlying need for safety and predictability.
Support: Understanding the brain's search for safety.
Dyslexia
Dyslexia is often linked to exceptional visual-spatial skills and big-picture thinking. Common experiences include strong storytelling abilities and unique ways of connecting ideas. Affirming support focuses on leveraging your creative and analytical strengths in a text-heavy world.
Support: Accessing your visual and creative power.
Tics & Tourette Syndrome
Tics and Tourette Syndrome involve involuntary movements or sounds that reflect a hyper-connected neural system. Common experiences include high creativity and sensory awareness. Affirming support centres on acceptance and reducing the social stress of suppressing tics.
Support: Embracing acceptance and natural expression.
A Neurodivergent-Affirming Perspective

- Recognising differences as natural human variation, not flaws to be fixed.
- Validating your lived experience and honoring the strategies you’ve used to survive and thrive.
- Promoting self-acceptance and reducing the harmful impact of 'masking' to fit in.
- Working collaboratively to build environments and routines that truly fit your brain.
How I Support Neurodivergent People
- Providing a safe space to explore a new diagnosis or the feeling of being 'different.'
- Developing practical, individualized strategies for executive functioning and sensory regulation.
- Addressing related challenges like anxiety, burnout, or relationship difficulties.
- Advocating for your needs in workplace or education settings.
My goal is to help you feel empowered in your identity and supported in a way that respects your natural ways of being.
For Families, Children and Young People
Autism
Autism is a different way of experiencing the world, socialising and processing information. What children and families might notice: unique ways of communicating, deep focus on interests, a preference for routines and sensory sensitivities. At Sequoia Therapy, I support families in creating environments where autistic children feel safe and understood.
Dyspraxia
Dyspraxia relates to how the brain plans and coordinates physical movements. What children and families might notice: appearing 'clumsy', difficulty with tasks like buttoning shirts or using scissors, and challenges with organisation. My approach focuses on building self-esteem and navigating practical daily challenges.
ADHD
ADHD involves a high-energy, fast-moving and often creative way of thinking. What children and families might notice: high levels of energy, difficulty with focus on non-preferred tasks, acting on impulse and intense emotions. I help families transition from 'managing behaviors' to understanding and supporting the ADHD brain's needs.
OCD
OCD involves intense, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and the urge to repeat certain actions (compulsions) to feel safe. What children and families might notice: repetitive rituals, seeking constant reassurance or significant distress if routines are interrupted. I offer compassionate, specialised support to help families navigate OCD together.
Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a difference in how the brain processes language. What children and families might notice: challenges with phonics, spelling or reading fluently, beside strengths in visual-spatial or creative thinking. I provide support that builds a child’s confidence and helps families advocate for the right accommodations.
Tics & Tourette Syndrome
Tics are involuntary movements or sounds that happen repeatedly. What children and families might notice: twitching, repetitive blinking, or vocalizing sounds that are hard to suppress. I provide a supportive space to understand tics and manage the social or emotional impact on the child and family.
A Message for Families
Discovering that your child is neurodivergent can bring many different emotions. You might feel relief, worry, or overwhelmed by information. My role is to help you navigate this path, moving away from 'managing' your child and toward truly understanding and celebrating who they are.
